The City Guest House was built in the 1840’s as a family home. It is sited on what used to be part of the Roman Garrison and has been a guest house for thirty years now. Monkgate is one of the widest streets in York. Now part of the Inner Ring Road, it was one of the main access routes to the city through Monkgate Bar, the tallest of the four city gates, sited 230 yards from our front door. York is one of the best preserved medieval walled cities in Britain. There are many things to see and places to go in and around the city centre, celebrating 2000 years of history from the Romans, to the Vikings, and through to the present day. As your hosts we welcome you to our home and hope your journey was pleasant, and that your stay in York will be enjoyable. Allan and Julie Smith |
